We, pilots in the greater San Diego area, have a fantastic opportunity, courtesy of the FAA and your San Diego FAASafety Team. The P.R.O.T.E., Portable Oxygen Training Enclosure will come to Gillespie Field to offer pilots the ability to experience hypoxia in a normobaric hypoxic training device that simulates high altitude by reducing oxygen percentage without reducing atmospheric pressure.
This training is presented by the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) from Oklahoma City. We expect to have an enthusiastic, sold-out response from our pilots. Even if you experienced a chamber years ago, your body and response may have changed.
The FAA Safety Team volunteers have spent over a year in planning and would appreciate you sharing this news with all the pilot groups and flight schools you know. Sign-ups will start on FAASAFETY.gov, so if you are not yet signed up to receive safety meeting notifications, sign-up today!
