GPA Meeting & Antique Aircraft Display returns!
GPA Meeting at the County Admin Building Saturday August 7 @ 0900– our first “live” meeting since April 2020 – Make plans to attend!
Masks will be required whether vaccinated or not – this is a Federal rule. We hope this changes for our October meeting!
Donuts, coffee and fellowship before, during and after the meeting – we need to get together in person and re-establish the reason why we have a pilot association at Gillespie Field in the first place
Our guest speaker will be outstanding – Greg “Chaser” Keithley – the Navy’s official advisor to Top Gun II will tell us what it was like to deal with Tom Cruise in the remake of the 1986 epic movie about Navy fighter pilots
Classic AC display will available at the East Transient Ramp during the meeting with sign-off available after the meeting
The GPA MEETING in August will be our first live meeting. We have an outstanding speaker that you will enjoy because Top Gun II is going to be released soon and you will find “Chaser” Keithley’s presentation fascinating, and entertaining. Yes, we will have to wear masks when we are not eating the free donuts and drinking the free coffee provided by the GPA. We think this will be a temporary situation. We will not have a meeting in September due to the Labor Day holiday, so our NEXT meeting in October will either be in the Admin building without masks, or we will move the venue to a hangar nearby.
There is a lot happening at Gillespie. The GPA works hard to help control the cost of flying at our airport, but we are also involved in policymaking. Vehicle-Pedestrian Deviations at KSEE (and other airports) have caused the FAA to review the current procedures for airport access. Airport Manager Cathe Johnson has done a marvelous job on airport improvements. The perimeter road for instance, which, once completed, will cut down on VP/D’s considerably. But there is a cost. If you drive on the airport, you will be required to take an online course for the non-movement area. And if you drive on the movement area, you will need to pass an online course plus get a personal sign off from the airport or leasehold. Come to the GPA meeting to find out more – and if you want a voice in these policies and procedures – I encourage all of you to attend the GFDC meeting this Wednesday evening.
ABOUT GPA
GPA's general membership meetings are typically held the first Saturday of every month at 9:00 a.m. in the Gillespie Field Administration Building, 1960 Joe Crosson Drive, El Cajon, CA 92020. Refreshments are provided, and meetings usually last about an hour (though hangar talk can go on indefinitely afterwards).
Our general meetings are a good place for you to get to know your fellow Gillespie pilots and to find out what's going on at your airport.
